Mr Altay Altuntas is a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon with a focus on conditions of the knee and hip. Growing up in Melbourne, Altay graduated from the University of Melbourne Medical School before going on to complete his Orthopaedic training in some of Victoria’s leading hospitals. He obtained his fellowship with the Royal Australian College of Surgeons in 2009. 

Altay then pursued advanced international training in London, Italy and the USA; including fellowship training in sports knee surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital in London. He also undertook a knee and hip replacement fellowship at Imperial College Hospitals in London with a particular focus on less invasive, early recovery surgery and partial knee replacement surgery. Altay has completed advanced training in foot and ankle surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital. Research has been an ongoing commitment, with published research on partial knee replacement outcomes and research in the field of robotic knee surgery. He has received training at the Steadman Clinic in USA and the Rizzoli Institute in Italy.

Altay guides patients to optimise non-surgical treatment for their musculoskeletal conditions, and believes the best surgical outcomes are achieved when patients are well-prepared for their procedure. He has a focus on patient advocacy to ensure that you receive optimal care. He takes pride in ensuring there are open lines of communication between health practitioners and takes a personable approach with patients. Altay takes a holistic approach and continually aware of new and complimentary treatments.

Altay has a special interest in sports knee injuries, performing ACL reconstruction, patella stabilisation and knee arthroscopy. He also has extensive experience in surgical treatments for osteoarthritis of the knee and hip. He performs robotically assisted knee replacement surgery and is a SuperPATH hip replacement surgeon. 

Mr Altuntas also holds a public appointment at St Vincents Public Hospital and involved with teaching through the University of Melbourne Medical School
